One of Long Island’s newest up and coming bands recently came to me for some new promotional photography. The Como Band (aka Matt, Andrew and Dorian) have been working very hard in the studio recording a new album which is due to come out very soon. They’re finishing up the final production of a few new songs, so it was time for them to get in front of the camera to help promote their music. When I was presented the opportunity to work with these three guys, I jumped right on it. You really can’t go wrong with a band that is pretty much down to do anything during their photo shoot, even if it includes visiting some desolate areas of Long Island. I had an absolute blast hanging out with these guys and can’t wait to see what they do with their music in the next year.

PHOTOGRAPHER NOTES

There’s a very big difference between shooting one person by themselves and a band, especially when using only one light source. Such was the case during this photo shoot. I chose to only use one strobe for the entire shoot as well as only one lens. This was basically to challenge myself in strengthening my weaknesses in lighting as well as taking control of the limitations of only one light and one lens. The Elinchrom Ranger RX was used with a 69″ Octabank at times as well as bare bulb with a 7″ reflector. Those were the only two modifiers used during this shoot. The lens of choice was a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L and I gotta say that thing is beautiful! Simply put, I am in love with this lens. The Elinchrom 69″ Octa was used for the first and third photos and a 7″ reflector with bare bulb was used for the second and fourth images. One of these days I’ll get around to posting lighting diagrams…just have to remember to note what the set ups are during the shoot.
