Category Archives: Video

Not too long ago I teamed up with Chris Bruno of Seventh Wire Films to create a bio video for my new website and blog. We filmed an interview where I speak about my work, where I draw inspiration from and many other aspects of my career in photography. I don’t know if you can tell while watching this video but I am nowhere near as comfortable in front of the camera as I am behind it. After filming the interview, Chris and I explored NYC for a few hours to film some extra footage in the video. You will see me shooting one of my favorite things, street photography (aka Observations). There are also a few clips from behind the scenes of recent photo shoots with The Given Motion, Rachel Echelberger, and my motorcycle shoot with Tom and Jared.

For many years now I have been shooting street photography without even really realizing what I was doing with it. I never really had a clear direction or focus in what I was trying to accomplish. That is up until the past year or so when I decided that there really was no specific theme that I was shooting. There is no clear statement that I am trying to make. There’s not even just one thing that I am trying to capture, whether it be people, things, places, or events. These are just my Observations on a daily basis. I photograph what interests me and hope that it creates an interesting photograph. It’s really as simple as that. Well, maybe not. There does seem to be some of my humor to be found in many of my photographs. At least that’s what some have told me. And you know, I’d agree with that 100%. I think that every photograph that any of us create has a bit of ourselves put into it. That’s what makes up our own personal style of art.  It takes a long time to figure out what our photographic styles are. It takes A LOT OF SHOOTING. You’ll never know what your style is and what you really enjoy shooting if you only have that camera in your hands once a month, twice a month or even just once a week. You need to keep shooting anything and everything that interests you. This will help develop your eye and keep you ready for the next interesting image to be created.

You can see a lot of my Observations (street photography) on my Tumblr site here.

After taking a look at all those photographs you will probably wonder why I decided to post the video below. Honestly, it’s just to try something new with my work. I want to get more into video and figure that one of the best ways to do it is by shooting something that I already love shooting. I will admit that this is not the best piece of video you will ever come across. Indeed it is very far from that. But I am happy with the results.  I think there’s an interesting story to be found in this video. What are your thoughts?

Here’s a look behind the scenes of my photo shoot with The Given Motion at Attic Studios in Long Island City, NY. A huge thanks goes to Tony D’angelo for shooting the video as well as editing the video. We spent a long time working on this video together so I hope you guys all enjoy it. I’d also like to give thanks to Billy Dowd and Jamie Haugland for helping out during the shoot. I don’t either one of them will want to see a stack of books within arm’s reach any time soon.
